I love the LIVER meridian! I mean who doesn’t? As so many acupuncturists do, I use LV 2, LV 3, and LV 8 quite often in my daily protocols.
In this new series on acupuncture points, I cover the locations & functions of each channel. Today I look at the Liver channel and its 14 acupuncture points.
My aim is to make each point easy to locate, as well as differentiate all acupuncture points’ functions. I also look at Channel pathways and how relevant they are in practice.
Let me know what you think and keep rocking it with acupuncture! 😍

The LIVER Meridian and its 14 acupuncture points
Physical Functions
The LIVER Channel of Foot Jue Yin has 14 acupuncture points (bilaterally). This meridian is used mostly for digestive disorders, menstrual issues, mental disorders, and disorders along the channel pathway.
The LIVER meridian is associated with the organ system of the Liver. This meridian plays a role in maintaining physical, emotional, and mental well-being.
According to acupuncture theory, the Liver meridian begins at the big toe, travels up the medial aspect of the leg, and ends at the 6th intercostal space just below the breast area. Along its pathway, it passes through 14 acupuncture points that are effective in treating a variety of conditions.
A branch from the Liver organ ascends to the eyes & further to the vertex. This is where it connects with the DU (Governing) Vessel.
Emotional Functions
In addition to its physical functions, the Liver meridian is also associated with the emotions of Anger, irritability, frustration, and rage. The liver moves Qi and relaxes the sinews (tendons, ligaments, and joints). It is important for maintaining a sense of balance and harmony within the body.
The Liver meridian is active during 1 & 3 and is most strongly influenced by the element of Wood.
It is in balance when a person is feeling relaxed. However, it can become imbalanced if they experience long-standing frustration & anger.
The most common Liver acupuncture points
- Liver 2 (LV 2): it is used to relieve pain, and treats headache, dizziness, and irritability. Liver 2 brings Liver Yang down.
- Liver 3 (LV 3): this acupuncture point is the BEST to move Liver Qi for stagnation created by stress.
- Liver 5 (LV 5): this point is fantastic for damp-heat in the external genitalia area.
- Liver 8 (LV 8): this acupuncture point is used mostly to nourish Liver Blood deficiency.
- Liver 14 (LV 14): it is a great point to relieve Liver pain, rib pain but also for digestive issues.

You’re so welcome 🙂
Hallo Clara, Thank you for your great channel. Do you have a chart for the entry and exit points of the officials ?
yes I do in my AcuPoints Made Easy book 🙂
Thankyou for sharing… Love you…. 🥰🙏
Glad it benefited you 🙂
After your kind answer to my question yesterday -( I so enjoyed your celebration even tho it was 10pm in the UK!) I am now learning about the livet! Please can you help me to distinguish where I find Liver 8 & Kidney 10 as they seem very close together?
I’m so happy you joined the fun! It’s a little tricky and hard to do without a visual, but LV 8 is closer to the front while KD 10 is further back but they’re very close together indeed 🙂
