Why is it important to understand the layers of all acupuncture meridians? Because they truly help us choose the right acupuncture points for each patients.
The more we know about the 12 main meridians and the 8 extra vessels pathways, the divergents, the collaterals, the muscular regions, and the dermatomes, the easier it is to diagnose and treat our patients.
- The 12 main meridians carry Qi & Blood
- The 8 extra vessels carry Essence
- The 12 divergents are an extension of the main meridians covering more space.
- The 15 or 16 (depending on different texts) collaterals connect the Yin and Yang related meridians and balance the external with the internal.
- The 12 muscular regions give us clue of imbalance.
- The 12 dermatomes also reflect whatβs not working internally.
