Show Notes

Allison and I connected over something we’re both deeply passionate about: the power of TCM in empowering women’s health with Fertility. Like me, Allison is based in Vancouver, and she’s built a wonderful online presence through TikTok and Instagram, where she educates thousands about how TCM can help with PCOS, endometriosis, fertility, and more.

Our conversation was rich, heartfelt, and full of insights that I’m excited to share with you.

Fertility & Women’s Health: Supporting Both Partners

One theme that came up early in our discussion was fertility. Specifically, the importance of addressing both partners’ health. In clinical practice, it’s usually the woman who walks through the clinic door first. And while it’s ideal to support both partners, Allison shared a perspective I wholeheartedly agree with:
Treating even one partner is still far better than treating none.

Her approach is grounded in practicality and compassion. She recognizes that healthcare decisions aren’t always straightforward for couples and that individualized support can still make a significant impact on fertility outcomes.

Endometriosis: Allison’s Personal & Professional Journey

Allison also opened up about her own journey with endometriosis, a condition that shaped her passion for women’s health long before she received her diagnosis. Hearing her describe the challenges of navigating the Western medical system while relying on her TCM knowledge was powerful.

We both emphasized that managing endometriosis requires a truly multidimensional approach—one that includes:

  • diet

  • lifestyle

  • emotional well-being

  • pain management

  • hormonal support

  • and of course, acupuncture & herbal medicine

Her journey reinforces what so many women experience: the need for a system of care that supports the whole person, not just the symptoms.

Guiding the Next Generation of TCM Practitioners

Another highlight was our shared excitement about nurturing new practitioners who feel drawn to women’s health. Allison’s advice for aspiring acupuncturists was spot on:

Always be a student.
The field evolves constantly—there’s always something new to learn.

Blend Western + Eastern medical knowledge.
Understanding labs, hormones, imaging, and Western diagnoses enhances clinical confidence and patient outcomes.

Stay curious and open-minded.
Women’s health is dynamic, diverse, and deeply personal.

As someone who has practiced and taught for many years, I couldn’t agree more. The combination of TCM fundamentals with modern clinical insights is what makes our medicine truly transformative.

The Power of Preconception Care

Both Allison and I are huge advocates for preconception care. Supporting the body before trying to conceive can make an enormous difference in:

  • cycle regulation

  • stress levels

  • hormonal balance

  • egg and sperm quality

  • emotional readiness

Giving the body time to prepare often makes the journey smoother—and far less stressful.

Emotional Support: The Heart of Fertility Work

Perhaps the most touching part of our conversation centered on the emotional landscape of fertility struggles. Anyone who has supported patients through this knows how much heartbreak, hope, frustration, and resilience can be wrapped up in the journey.

We talked about:

  • creating a safe space for patients

  • validating the emotional layers of fertility challenges

  • recognizing the influence of stress and trauma on women’s health

  • and supporting patients with empathy, presence, and compassion

For both of us, this emotional connection is what makes the work meaningful.

Final Thoughts

My conversation with Allison Locke was a beautiful reminder of why I love this medicine. Her passion, expertise, and lived experience embody the heart of what TCM offers women today. From fertility to endometriosis to cycle health, our discussion reaffirmed the importance of staying curious, staying compassionate, and continually adapting to meet our patients’ needs.

I hope her insights inspire you as much as they inspired me.
Here’s to supporting women’s health—one patient, one conversation, and one healing moment at a time. 💗
