Show Notes
If you’re a Traditional Chinese Medicine practitioner or acupuncturist struggling to market your services, you’re not alone. In fact, most of us weren’t taught how to promote ourselves in school. We graduate with incredible knowledge and a passion to help others—but if no one knows where you are or what you do, your treatment room stays empty.
That’s exactly why I invited marketing expert Molly Cahill on The AcuPro Show to chat about how we can promote our practices in a way that’s authentic, educational, and fun!
Why Acupuncturists Struggle with Social Media
Marketing often feels icky to health practitioners, especially in TCM. We didn’t get into this work to sell—we got into it to help. But as Molly shared, marketing is really just education. When we shift our mindset and see it as informing people about natural health options, it becomes empowering—not salesy.
You’re not forcing anyone into anything. You’re giving them a chance to make an informed choice.
Your Story Matters More Than You Think
Most practitioners enter holistic medicine because of a personal experience. Molly herself turned to acupuncture during pregnancy after conventional treatments failed to help her morning sickness. That experience lit a fire in her to help others discover holistic solutions—and now she teaches acupuncturists and chiropractors how to grow their businesses online.
Your story, your “why,” is powerful. Revisit it often—it will fuel your confidence and your content.
Social Media Tips for Acupuncturists
If Instagram feels overwhelming, you’re not alone. From what to post to how often, many practitioners feel stuck. Molly broke down a few practical tips:
-
Start with your patients’ questions: Think about the last 10 new patients and their chief complaints. That’s your content roadmap.
-
Post symptom-specific content: People don’t know what “blocked Qi” means, but they do understand migraines or fertility issues.
-
Use your face and your name: Whether it’s your website or social media, people want to see who you are. It builds trust and connection.
-
Repurpose your content: A reel about Stomach 36 today can become a carousel post next month. Don’t reinvent the wheel every day.
💡 Bonus tip: One post type that works wonders? Cancellations! Just post your availability with a simple call to action like “DM me to grab this spot.”
Molly’s Content Ecosystem for Marketing on Social Media
Molly also introduced the idea of a content ecosystem—six types of content you can rotate to keep your feed engaging and informative:
-
Educational content – Teach a simple concept or acupuncture point.
-
Personal/lifestyle content – Share what you eat, your go-to herbs, or your daily rituals.
-
Engaging posts – Ask a fun question (e.g., “If you named your baby after your pregnancy cravings, what would it be?”).
-
Community collaborations – Highlight a chiropractor, yoga studio, or herbal shop you love.
-
Direct pitch posts – Announce openings, new services, or special offers.
-
Social proof – Share patient testimonials or success stories.
These themes help you stay consistent while connecting with your audience on multiple levels.
Don’t Rely Only on Social Media
As much as we love Instagram, platforms can change overnight. That’s why building an email list is crucial. Start with your current patients—email them and invite them to follow you online. Not only does it boost engagement, but it keeps you top of mind.
🎯 Pro tip: Create a pinned post that clearly outlines who you are, what you treat, and how to book with you.
Final Thoughts
Marketing doesn’t have to feel like a chore. It’s an opportunity to serve your community before they ever walk through your door. When you show up consistently—online, in your neighbourhood, and in your emails—you become the go-to expert in your area.
And remember, it’s not about perfection—it’s about connection.
