GROW your Practice & CRUSH It on Social Media Masterclasses

Show Notes

I’m excited to share this fun and insightful conversation I had with two TCM rock stars who brought real questions: Liga and Matt. As a student and a newly practicing acupuncturist, they both brought valuable perspectives on navigating the journey of building a career in TCM. Whether you’re a student, a new graduate, or just someone curious about the field, there’s something for everyone in our conversation.

Meet Liga and Matt – The 2 TCM Rock Stars who brought the Real Questions

Liga is on an exciting journey to becoming a TCM practitioner while currently studying in England. As a student, she’s already thinking ahead about promoting herself despite not yet being qualified. It’s incredibly proactive and sets a great example for others in similar shoes.

On the other hand, Matt is a new full-time practitioner located in the west of Ireland, near Galway. With a background in the corporate world, Matt’s transition into his passion for acupuncture is truly inspiring. He actively works on engaging with potential clients by leveraging social media and making the most of his recent training in our social media masterclass.

Overcoming Initial Challenges

We kicked off the discussion with some truly authentic and real questions. To start, we explored common challenges faced by those entering the TCM field. Liga shared her concerns about starting to promote herself before even finishing her studies. During our conversation, we emphasized the importance of taking small, manageable steps.

One of our ideas was to start a simple website early using user-friendly platforms like Wix or Weebly. The idea is not to overwhelm oneself but to begin leaving digital footprints. Writing about one’s journey, even as a student, and sharing the passion for acupuncture is a fantastic way to lay the groundwork for the future.

Real Questions: Harnessing the Power of Social Media

Social media can be a powerful ally in building a TCM practice, although it can seem daunting at times. Liga expressed concerns about the time commitment social media demands, which many practitioners share. I shared some approaches she could try: starting with just a few posts per week and using AI tools like ChatGPT to brainstorm content ideas efficiently.

The goal is to maintain consistency rather than striving for presence across every platform. Meanwhile, Matt has successfully embraced these strategies, dedicating a single day each month to setting up and scheduling his entire social media plan. This kind of focused effort simplifies the process, making it less overwhelming and more effective.

Confronting Imposter Syndrome

Every practitioner, irrespective of experience level, faces impostor syndrome at some point. It’s a common mental hurdle, especially when surrounded by peers who might seem more knowledgeable. We talked about the importance of authenticity and focusing on one’s unique strengths.

People often choose practitioners based on personal connection as much as professional competence. Remembering this can help us all provide genuine care and comfort to our patients while easing self-doubt.

Real Questions: Navigating Patient Interactions and Treatment Plans

Matt brought up a really insightful topic concerning patient interactions and determining treatment frequency, especially when financial constraints are a concern.

It’s a balancing act to ensure each patient receives adequate care without straining their budget. I suggested initially recommending an ideal treatment frequency, then adapting it to the patient’s needs and financial situation. Encouraging patients to participate actively in their wellness journey through lifestyle changes can support treatment effectiveness and empower them in their healing process.

Finding the Courage for Social Media Videos

Matt expressed some hesitation about appearing on camera, a common fear among many practitioners stepping into social media for their practice. My advice was to start simply, without speaking initially, and gradually incorporate speaking as comfort grows. There’s no need for perfection, just authenticity.

It’s about letting our personality shine through and allowing potential clients to connect with us on a personal level.

Building Confidence Through Action

We wrapped up by discussing the importance of taking small, purposeful steps toward our goals. I encouraged Liga and Matt to engage with their peers and families for support, like asking for honest feedback or technical help with social media, to ease their learning curve. It’s all about trying, learning, and growing with each new experience.

I’m so proud of both Liga and Matt for joining the conversation and sharing their journey. Their real questions and their proactive approaches not only help themselves but also offer tremendous insights to anyone walking a similar path in TCM.

Remember, you don’t have to have it all figured out. Lean into your passion, embrace what makes you unique, and keep making positive contributions to the TCM community.
