Episode 27 – Supporting Emotional Trauma Patients through TCM & Acupuncture

Show Notes

Today, the tables are turned as I, the acupuncturist, am interviewed by none other than my husband, Craig! I had no idea what questions he was going to ask me. I hope my answers benefitted you and resonated with you on where you are in your journey today, and for your TCM future. Let’s go!

A Special Episode with a Twist πŸ”€

Today’s episode stands out as Craig stepped into my role of the AcuPro Show and interviewed me! Craig was downstairs on the patio and Clara was upstairs in her office. Craig begins by inviting me to share my story. It is a journey that spans from her childhood in the French Alps to where I am today.

I opened up about my modest upbringing in France. Raised by my hardworking single mother. We all lived in a one-bedroom apartment. It did not even have a bathroom. With a single income, growing up was with limited financial means. Despite these hurdles, I had many outdoor adventures and a close-knit community. Fortunately, this experience instilled a deep appreciation for nature and resilience.

Overcoming Challenges in TCM School 🏫

Later on, I faced linguistic and conceptual challenges when I enrolled in TCM school in Vancouver. Transitioning to studying complex Chinese medical theories in English was daunting.

One of the pivotal moments for my education was the advice from my foundation teacher. Always go back to the foundation when you don’t understand something. By gradually mastering foundational concepts, I found myself more confident with my studies. Even if something feels insurmountable at first, dedication and passion can pave the way to success.

Valuable Lessons and Acupuncturist Career Beginnings πŸ‘£

One of the significant turning points for me was advice from a teacher. It changed my entire approach to patient care: β€œFocus on the solution, not on the problem.” This mindset shift helped me navigate the emotional toll of hearing patients’ distressing stories. It reinforced my approach to finding solutions and easing their lives.

Once graduated, I set out with high hopes. Quite quickly, I faced the reality of building a practice from the ground up. The initial weeks were devoid of patients, leading to moments of doubt and anxiety. However, after months of offering free treatments to other health practitioners, it eventually paid off. Within six months, I had a steady stream of 40 patients a week. To sum up, I truly believe that this is because of the importance of grit, consistency, and passion in turning dreams into reality.

The Creation and Growth of Acupro Academy ☯️

Acupro Academy was born out of my desire to support students and practitioners with accessible, in-depth TCM knowledge. I discussed the meticulous effort and countless hours invested in creating educational content. Every since social media reel and long-form YouTube videos, each piece is crafted to ensure clarity and practical application.

Creating even a 16-second social media reel can take up to two and a half hours. A 20-minute educational video may demand up to 15 hours of preparation and editing. My commitment and dedication to helping others continues to fuel my passion for TCM.

Acupuncturist Teaching Around the Globe 🌎

This journey has already taken me around the world, from India to Europe. I shared fascinating differences in TCM practices globally. For instance, in India, patients often receive acupuncture daily for ten days in a row. This is a huge contrast to the once or twice-weekly treatments common in North America.

Additionally, in Austria, I encountered another surprising practice. Routinely, medical doctors use acupuncture points that are contraindicated during pregnancy in North America. These doctors implement cervical ripening acupuncture for all pregnant women. They have done many studies that reported no adverse effects. This challenges widely held beliefs about pregnancy acupuncture care.

The Adventures of Acupuncturist Podcasting πŸŽ™οΈ

Finally, launching the Acupro Show podcast was a dream two years in the making. There is freedom and intimacy in podcasting. This allows me to dive deep into topics and interview experts from various fields from around the globe! Thankfully, the podcast has quickly gained popularity, reflecting my goal of sharing valuable, practical TCM knowledge. The AcuPro Show has received over 31,000 downloads in just six months. The podcast has become a significant channel for me to extend her reach and impact.

I truly appreciate the opportunity to connect with guests and learn from their insights. Recently I gathered the courage to invite Yvonne Farrell, a respected figure in TCM. To her delight, Yvonne promptly accepted the invitation, adding to the growing list of notable personalities on the podcast. Stay tuned for that episode to come later this year!
